I love travel books because they take me places that I either haven't been to yet or may never get to. Here's a list (in no particular order) of my favorite armchair travel books. Some I realize are not technically travel books but hey, they are more interesting that way sometimes.
(Note - some of these have a few PG moments in them - situations or language - so you may want to read them ahead before handing it out to the kids).
I read these two over and over before and during our driving trip to Mexico in 2007.
I haven't actually finished this one yet, but so far it's great.
Interesting read about one couple's experience living in Mexico.
My husband bought me a copy of Born to Run, which took me awhile to plow through, but in the end, I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know.
Bill Bryson is not everybodys choice as he can be somewhat...let's say brash, but this one is pretty easy going.
If your looking for some humour in your travel reading go with this one.
This is not really a travel book, but it is a true account and it gives you a real feel for the time and place.
Great family travel book, made me want to take up sailing.
