The Higgledy Piggeldy Garden

I inherited my garden. It came with the house when we bought it five years ago. The former owner was an artist with great plans for a dry riverbed in the backyard, so he used part of the front yard as a nursery bed, sticking in things here and there, more or less at random.

Unfortunately he lost interest in this grand project part way in so that when we purchased it (and the snow melted) we discovered a large crater in the back yard and a large weedy patch of garden in the front.

Hubby and the kids spent the spring filling in the hole one wheelbarrow load at a time while I slowly began to clean up the front garden. When I started out I knew next to nothing (I knew what a dandylion looked like - okay maybe a Cosmo); I've always had vegetable gardens and grown simple annuals. With the help of some generous friends, I've added some perennials wherever I found the space. There is still lots to learn, but I am not in any rush.

I have a friend who has beautiful gardens, themed according to colour. Mine.....not so much. I like the fact that in among the "weeds" - Queen Anne's Lace and Black Eyed Susans - are various Lillys and Roses. Like life, in my garden you never know what you will find around the bend. (Or maybe that's just my grandious excuse for not weeding :).

In the interests of today's Friday Flowers on Fimby, here's a basket of summer brought to you by Lill.

Have a Great Weekend!

  4. I love your basket of flowers and also your garden philosophy. And I don't consider Black Eyed Susans to be weeds either.
